Florida Grand Opera’s performance of Silent Night on November 15 was a moving and unforgettable evening. From the first note, the orchestra under Christopher Allen created a tense yet lyrical atmosphere that perfectly captured both the horrors of war and the fragile moments of peace. The music carried the story with clarity and emotional weight, allowing every quiet, intimate scene to shine.

The staging by Tomer Zvulun was visually striking. The set and lighting transported the audience to the trenches of World War I, while also emphasizing the fleeting moments of camaraderie and hope between soldiers. It was simple yet effective, letting the story breathe without distraction.

Standout performances came from Kameron Lopreore as Nikolaus Sprink, whose voice and presence carried both authority and vulnerability; Sarah Joy Miller as Anna Sørenson, who imbued every lyric with heart and sincerity; and Elliot Madore, whose performance brought depth and humanity to the conflict. The chorus added texture and emotional resonance, highlighting the opera’s themes of shared humanity and compassion even in the darkest circumstances.

By the final scene, the quiet power of the story lingered in the theater. This Silent Night was not just a war story—it was a testament to the enduring human spirit, told through sensitive singing, thoughtful staging, and careful musical leadership. Florida Grand Opera delivered an evening that was both moving and unforgettable, a production that will stay with me long after the curtain fell.
