In February 2026, Turin’s venerable Teatro Regio will host a truly remarkable event in the opera season: Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth conducted by the legendary Riccardo Muti, one of the modern era’s most revered interpreters of Verdi’s music. This eagerly awaited production, running from 24 February to 7 March, marks Muti’s fourth appearance at the Regio in just five years and brings his unparalleled insight to one of Verdi’s most intense works.

What makes this staging especially compelling is the creative vision behind it: the new production is directed by Chiara Muti, Maestro Muti’s daughter, whose theatrical sensibility amplifies the opera’s psychological and emotional depth. Her approach penetrates the dark heart of Shakespeare’s tragedy as filtered through Verdi’s visionary score, exploring themes of ambition, guilt, and descent into madness.
The title role will be sung by baritone Luca Micheletti, supported by an outstanding Verdian cast including Lidia Fridman, Giovanni Sala, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo. Together with stunning design, choreography, and lighting, this Macbeth promises to be a production of high dramatic impact and musical refinement.

Behind the season’s artistic arc at the Regio is Teatro Regio Torino’s Direttore artistico Cristiano Sandri, whose leadership continues to invigorate the house’s programming with a blend of tradition and innovation. Sandri’s role in shaping the artistic landscape helps support bold ventures like this one, deepening the theatre’s global cultural standing.
As anticipation builds, Macbeth stands out not just as an opera, but as a testament to the enduring power of collaboration across generations — a thrilling highlight for the 2025‑26 season.
